Journaling Prompts
â¢How do you feel about your body? Are you at war with it, always trying to change its shape? Or are you grateful for this body that serves you every day?
â¢Brainstorm a list of at least 20 ways to move your body. Set a goal to do at least one per day for 30 days. Journal daily about this.
â¢Create your own body-positive mantra. One of mine is: I exercise daily because it adds power to my body and frees my mind.
Chapter 7:
Manage Your Money
When negotiating divorce, money is where the gloves come off and the bare-knuckle fighting begins. Divorce means a loss of money, money that once was yours. Money feels related to power and control, and because of that your ex may try to take as much as he can, especially if there is either a mistress or a new wife in the equation. Even if you are one of the lucky ones and your assets are divided equally (note I said equally, not fairly), you may need to make some changes in your lifestyle: how you plan, save, and spend. How you think about money.
Some of the problem is just math. You had one household supported by two incomes. Now there will be two households to support. Furthermore, the reality is the money will not be divided fairly. You might be living in the exact same place, with the exact same expenses, but have less than half the income to support it. The glib solution is to change your circumstances. But what if, for example, you have children who are settled in their schools and their activities? Do they have to pay a price for their parentsâ divorcing? Whatever your situation, it is difficult to uproot if you have lived somewhere a long time and have all your connections and relationships in that neighborhood. You may have your commute perfectly timed, your childcare network in place. You may be within walking distance of church or your favorite exercise class. But post divorce you may now be in a house that stretches the budget to near breaking. Once the divorce is finalized, no matter how badly or nicely you may have been treated, it is time to create your own money story.
To do that, you have six steps ahead of you: know your financial standing, review your money story, develop a healthy money mindset, select your money tribe, see money as energy, and make a five-year money plan.
